7-12-07 - 8-12-07	Working Systemically with Family Violence: Risk, Responsibility and Collaboration  This training will introduce the course participants to safe practice in the context of working therapeutically where family violence is of concern. Our safety methodology, developed over 11 years of practice, pays attention to risk assessment and risk management, helps family members develop responsibility for safety and for their harmful behaviour, and seeks to work collaboratively with the family, and with the professional network. Using violence focused genograms, the course will explore the intergenerational effects of family violence, the traumatic impact on children of 'witnessing' domestic violence, and the impact on practitioners of doing this work. We shall use examples with work with couples and families. The course will close with the contra-indications for therapeutic work. 31-1-08 - 1-2-08	Professional Training by Renowned Scholar - Integrative Family and Systems Treatment (I-FAST) with Children and Adolescents with Severe Emotional and Behavioral Problems: Utilizing Strengths and Creating Changes  Integrative Family and Systems Treatment (I-FAST) is a treatment model that is developed to work with families that have children with severe emotional and/or behavioral problems. Building on evidence-based literature regarding effective treatments for this population, I-FAST identifies three core treatment components that can be integrated into a coherent treatment protocol for working with children, adolescents, and families at risk. These core treatment components include: (1) establishing and maintaining a positive therapeutic alliance, (2) implementing of second-order change strategies for changing family patterns, and (3) collaborating with other systems that serve the family. The simplicity of this treatment model involves a parallel process between the helping professionals and the families in implementing the model: helping professionals are encouraged to utilize and integrate their expertise around these evidence-based core components in providing treatment, and families are facilitated to utilize their strengths and resilience in finding solutions that successfully address their child’s problems.
